Focus on the idea of neighborhoods:
- Hold a neighborhood block party in the library.
- Invite the community to a meet and greet.
- Provide information on how to hold a summer block party.
Partner with Big Brother/Big Sister organization to provide information on their mentoring program. Informational workshops and testimonials a possibility.
Intergenerational Friendship - Host programs for seniors and teens/young adults. Possibly joint craft program, shared memories with a Reminisce kit, etc.
You've Gotta Have Friends - Program on the different types of friendship, what makes a good friend, how to make friendships last, etc.
Speed Friendship - A variation on speed dating, invite adult patrons to sit in groups of two around a meeting room. A timer will be set for five minutes and a list of get acquainted questions will be provided.
Long Distance Relationships - How can you maintain a friendship across the miles? Ask patrons to share their ideas about what has made their friendships work when their separated by miles.
I'm Proud of You Role Model Display - Construct a display of silhouettes with the names of patron's role models and why they're proud of them. Host a reception for the mentors and their friends.
Movies We Can Be Proud Of - Showcase films with strong, influential lead characters: Norma Rae,Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, A Few Good Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Schindler's List, The Pursuit of Happyness, etc.
Hold an essay contest inviting people to describe what they are proud that they have done and/or accomplished in their lives.
Invite groups of friends to attend a Friendship Open House, sharing with others what makes their relationships fun and rewarding
