Welcome to One Book, One Community

A literary experience presented by the Allegheny County Library Association

Unifying a community, like reading a good book, requires an understanding of the entire cast of characters and the experiences they share.

The Allegheny County Library Association is pleased to announce our 6th annual One Book, One Community program. One Book programs are bringing communities together for stimulating discussions, and to challenge stereotypes and generate ideas. The goal of One Book, One Community in Allegheny County is to build a better community through reading and civic discourse.

Our sixth One Book selection is:
I'm Proud of You
by Tim Madigan

This book is a memoir that chronicles the friendship between Tim Madigan and Fred Rogers. Mister Rogers' concept of the good neighbor extended not only to the children who watched him on television, but also to the adults he shared his vision and exemplary character with. The book encompasses themes including Mister Rogers' impact on this region, the positive aspects of mentoring for men in regards to personal development, and the role of families and friendships in the development of children who are good neighbors.

Through our One Book programs and discussions, we hope to broaden perspectives, share thoughts, and learn from the wealth of knowledge and experience that many in our community are happy to share. Programs and events to support One Book will be announced throughout March and April.

This year's One Book, One Community program is brought to you by the Allegheny County Library Association with support from Allegheny County, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Dollar Bank, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, Highmark, and Joseph-Beth Booksellers.
