Overview -
Purpose
The Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) and partnering organizations are asking citizens of this region to participate in a unique program designed to promote open dialogue among fellow residents during March and April of 2008. The purpose of One Book, One Community is to encourage everyone to read and discuss the same book during the same time period.
Reading encourages you to see the world through someone else's eyes. One Book, One Community is intended to generate civic discussion and promote literacy.
You can find copies of the book at any public library in Allegheny County and at your local bookstore. For your convenience, you can request it be delivered to your local Allegheny County library through this website.
Whether you share your thoughts with friends and family, take part in a formal discussion group, or just spend a few minutes in personal reflection, the experiences created from participating in this program will be rewarding and worthwhile.
This year's 2008 One Book selection is I'm Proud of You: My Friendship with Fred Rogers by Tim Madigan with themes including mentorship and friendship demonstarting how Fred Rogers impacted people of all ages.
