The nature of the Internet makes it possible to access a series of links that can take a child almost anywhere.  Parents should guide their children while they browse the web just as they supervise their children's choices in reading, music and television.  The Mt. Lebanon Public Library is not responsible for the accuracy of information found on the Internet and has no control over the selection of banner advertisements a site has put on its web page.

     Guidelines for parents, kids and teens on online safety. Includes the article "Child Safety on the Information Highway," from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

     A comprehensive web site with information on Internet use for kids ages 2 - 17 and their families.  Includes resources to help parents.

     "Families and the Internet" - An online class for young people and their parents from New Jersey's Camden County Library.

Carnegie Cadets: The MySecureCyberspace Game.
Commander Omni is in charge of helping users become 'cyber defenders' to protect computers from 'cyber villains' such as 'Elvirus' and 'MC Spammer'.  Players move through various missions and earn points which can be used to purchase items for their dorm room.  A fun, educational game from Carnegie Mellon University's Carnegie Cyber Academy.

     The Internet Keep Safe Coalition group teaches basic rules of Internet safety to children and parents.  Governors and/or first spouses formed this coalition in partnership with a growing list of crime prevention organizations, law enforcement agencies, foundations and corporate sponsors.
