We need your help to keep our community gem sparkling!
The SNHL has launched a building fund campaign to raise money for the
following projects:
- Gutter/roofing project—all new gutters, soffet/facia, ice guard and roof work to fix leaks.
- New air conditioning—our 21-year-old system finally gave out in September. Slated for early spring 2008.
- First floor light remodeling project—slated to begin winter 2009. Based on customer survey results, we plan to address noise and safety issues, install new signage, new carpeting and add more comfortable seating so that you can find materials with ease and stay longer.
- Second floor light remodeling project—slated to begin fall of 2008. The library has secured a $22,000 Keystone Grant for this project. We hope to match those funds through fundraising efforts. This is a big project just by sheer size and number of rooms. We plan to remove
peeling wallpaper, replace the tile caps on the stairway, install new carpeting and paint.
In addition, a swap of rooms in the children’s department will create more space for the growing
picture book collection and comfortable seating.
We hope you will consider donating to the building fund campaign. There are a variety of ways:
Ongoing opportunities to help the library:
- Honor/memorial book program— The library’s honor/memorial book program is the perfect way to remember family and friends or honor events such as military service, birthdays, graduations or anniversaries. Your gift benefits countless library users and can be selected in subject areas of interest to the person honored. A bookplate inserted in the item names both the individual honored and the donor.
- Adopt-an-author program—An opportunity to purchase books by specific authors, genres or subjects for adults, teens or children. For example, are you a Nelson DeMille fan? Underwrite the average cost ($20.00 for children, $27.00 for adult fiction, $35.00 for non-fiction, $100.00 for book on CD) and we will place a bookplate in the title and you’ll be the first to check it out! We’ll notify you in advance by mail of publication. Keep in mind, some authors write a lot (think Nora Roberts or Danielle Steel), so you may want to adopt a genre such as romance. - Adopt-a-magazine program—An opportunity to underwrite the cost of a magazine subscription for one or two years. Your sponsorship will be acknowledged with a bookplate on the front cover. Click here to view and print the form.
- Join the Friends of the Library to help sponsor library programming for all ages.
- Volunteer at the Shaler North Hills Library.
