Library funding is on the chopping block! The PA budget has not been finalized, but libraries face the real possibility of a 30% to 50% cut in funding. In addition, resources such as Power Library face complete elimination.

What Does This Mean?

Libraries will be forced to slash book budgets and eliminate programming. It could also mean cutting hours and firing staff. Plus - the loss of state funds will also mean a loss of federal funds.

What Can You Do?

Join the Pennsylvania Library Association's Call-In Week on July 20-25. Call from the library, call from home - or both! Urge your elected officials to keep funding at its current level. Tell these officials how important your library is to you! Flood the phone lines!

Funding for libraries represents 1/3 or 1% of the stat's total budget. The proposed cuts would be catastrophic to libraries and library patrons, but do very little to help balance the state budget.
