2nd Annual Preview Night - March 27

An admission fee of $5 is charged for preview night, and includes light refreshments and first chance to purchase used books, records, and puzzles accumulated during the past year.  No admission is charged for shopping Friday through Sunday. Books sell for 75 cents each or three for $2; children’s books are 25 cents or 5 for $1. Fill a grocery bag for $4 on Sunday!  Rare, old, new and specialty books are priced individually.  The Community Room is wheel chair accessible, and Friends of the Library will be on hand to help. Volunteers are needed, especially to set up on Wednesday, March 26.  Please contact chairwoman, Jan Nevling, 412-655-4604, to schedule a time.  Sale proceeds help support the Pleasant Hills Library.

Local businesses in the community can help fund the library by donating refreshment items for the book sale’s preview night, Thursday, March 27. If you operate a local business and are looking for a way to support the library, the Friends accepts contributions of food or money to defray expenses of the book sale.  Donations will be acknowledged at the book sale.   Please contact Eileen Bourgeois, 412-653-1889.

Thanks to Representative Bill Kortz

The Pleasant Hills Public Library has a new look due to new carpeting on the main floor and thanks to  State Representative Bill Kortz’s help in obtaining a $5,000 grant used to finance the project. During this project, the Pleasant Hills Public Library Board of Trustees acknowledges the patience of patrons and the assistance of Sharon Julian-Milas, library director, and her staff.  Many thanks to the Jefferson Hills Public Library for processing books while we were closed.

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK April 13-19, 2008

Celebrate with a book!

One Book One Community - This unique program asks everyone in the region to read the same book and share discussion. This year’s selection is I’m Proud of You: My Friendship with Mr. Rogers by Tim Madigan. Join your library and county by honoring Mr. Rogers and commemorating 250 years of Pittsburgh through reading!

A Well Deserved Thank You

A much deserved thanks to dedicated volunteers who help The Friends. Their service has earned our book sale an excellent reputation and has brought returning buyers from as far away as Slippery Rock and Ohio. Less visible and two of the hardest working are Dorothy Sinderson and Denise Campedel, sorting chairwomen, who can often be found in the depths of the borough building throughout the year preparing for the sale by categorizing books. Jan Nevling, is book sale chairwoman.  Boy Scouts troops 204 and 231 and their energetic leaders, Chuck Ejzak and David Kooyers, transport cartons of books upstairs to the Community Room. Superintendent Denny Kunkel of the borough Public Works Department and his staff set up and take down the tables. These borough employees also carry the donated books from the first floor collection point to the sorting room. Thanks also to our supporters who donate books and cash to the library and purchase the thousands of books we sell. Our community minded residents have made the annual book sale a great success.
