Fines
Because the cost of processing overdue notices is high, borrowers are charged the following fines for late materials:
- 3 week materials: 10 cents per day
- Videocassette tapes, DVDs and CD-ROMs: $1.00 per day
Note that fines may vary due to the owning library's fine policy.
More information on our fines procedures and policies, including overdue notices and collection agencies should be reviewed by patrons with overdue materials.
Overdue materials should be returned to the library as soon as possible so that others may enjoy them, and you are not subject to fines. The procedure for handling overdue materials is well documented and easy to understand. It is included here so that you may know the system for handling overdues.
Overdue notices are generated at the EIN network and sent to our library in the shipping bins. We then mail them to our
patrons.
The first notice is sent to us from the EIN network 2 weeks after the material is due. The second notice is sent to us from
the EIN network after the first notice is sent. The third notice is sent to us from the EIN network 2 weeks after the
second notice has been sent. At this time the material is 6 weeks overdue. The library staff makes an intensive search
for the material within the library.
Beginning June 1, 2008, the Wm. E. Anderson Library of Penn Hills will be using Unique Management Systems to collect long
delinquent materials and outstanding fines. Unique Management Systems is a collection agency; and if they are unsuccessful
in their attempts to collect delinquent items and outstanding fines, the account will be sent to the credit agencies. If
the accounts are not satisfied, they will be reflected on your credit score.
