Adult Programs/News At The William E. Anderson Library of Penn Hills

Writers and Aspiring Writers..Join Us! Violeta Garcia-Mendoza is starting a writers' group at the library. The sessions are from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. The group will meet on the first Thursday of every month. Interested participants will spend a part of the time in free writing and part in sharing their writing that they are working on with the group. Register at 412/795-3507, ext. 120.


Sue Luxbaucher who has led successful and fun quilting classes in the past will be returning to teach this class. The class meets June 14, 21, July 12 and 19 from 10 am to 1 pm. The project is a Baby Quilt. The class meets from 10 am till noon in the library. You can view the quilt at the library and receive a materials list and color copy of the finished design when you sign up for the class. The class is $20 plus the cost of materials. The quilt is an applique quilt. Please bring a new blade, a 6" x 23" omnigrid ruler (optional 6" x 6" ruler). Visit the library to register and to get additional information.



The Art Group of Penn Hills meets every Tuesday from 10 am to 1 pm at the William E. Anderson Library of Penn Hills. The meetings are only open to members of the Penn Art group. Please come on Tuesday mornings to see about joining.


The Thursday Evening Book Club meets at the library at 7 pm on the third Thursday of every month. Books are chosen in advance so that everyone has a chance to read them over the month. There's no need to buy the book. Most are distributed to the group or can be found in the stacks or put on hold. Call 412/795-3507, ext. 120 for additional information.


The Mother-Daughter Book Club is for young ladies and their mothers. The club usually meets on the third Saturday of every month at 2 pm in the library. Contact Nicole Henline at nicoleehenline@gmail.com if you and your mother would like to be part of the group. Join us for an afternoon of food, fun and good conversation!

The library presents a free program on sleep apnea. The program will be presented by Lou Gigliotto. Please sign up at the desk in the adult library. The program will be on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7pm and is free.


Come find out about Stamping and Paper Crafting at the library. The program will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m. Chris Nicely of Nicely Done is coming to show everyone how much fun it is to make cards! Everyone who attends will put together 3 cards and learn about this fun and easy hobby. If you are a scrapbooker, come and see how much fun it is to use rubber stamping, too. The Angel Company's products are acid free! Chris is an independent consultant for the Angel Company. Cards will vary in style and color. Sign up today! Admission is $7.00, and please sign up by Tuesday, June 4th.


The Heroscape Gaming Club will be meeting every Wednesday during June and July at 1:00 p.m. You do not have to register or bring anything. The program is open to children 9 and older. It will begin on Wednesday, June 11, and this is a free program.


This is a rabbit program on rabbit care and adoption. Come out and see live rabbits and learn about their care and adoption. The speaker will be Mary Cvetan, and it is a free program. Both children and adults are welcome. Please sign up at the desk in the adult department. The program will be held on Thursday, June 12.


Summer reading program registration begins June 1 for teens and adults and continues till June 30. Students entering 8th through 12th grades are welcome to sign up as long as they have a library card. Registration cards for both teens and adults are at the front desk. Teens are white cards, and adults are blue. Make sure your card is filled out legibly and complete with zip code.

Adults and teens can start to read as soon as they are registered. Books submitted for prizes must be ones read this summer. Ballots are at the front desk and are handed out as people ask for them. White or tan for teens, and blue for adults. Both have questions to fill out. Drawing for prizes for both groups will be Thursday, August 14 at 1:00 p.m. Prize boxes for teens and adults are on the business reference shelving.

Books read do not have to be library books. Any age appropiate book will do. Any book, e.g. fiction or non-fiction, will do, but no videos or audiocassettes. Prizes have their names on the boxes. Put your ballots in the box you would like to win. The grand prize for adults is a $200 gas certificate from Sunoco.
