Library Services

Oakmont Carnegie Library has a collection of over 28,000 items, including:

Books for all ages Videos and DVDs
Books on Audio Cassette and Compact Disc (CD) Newspapers
Music CD's Pennsylvania History & Genealogy
Magazines for all ages Maps
Large Print Books Tax Forms
Pamphlets Travel Information

An updated Reference Collection, Business and Investment Information and Employment Resources are also available in print format and on the Web.

Library Policies

  1. Registration
    bulletAll residents of Allegheny County are eligible for a free card.
    bulletThe card may be used at any county library participating in the EIN
    (Electronic Information Network).
    bulletNon-residents of Allegheny County may receive a card if they have an ACCESS PA
    sticker on their Home library card.
    bulletProof of correct current address is required.
     
  2. Circulation
    bulletThe Library Card MUST be presented when borrowing materials.
    bulletCard holders are responsible for all material charged to their card.
    bulletAll materials except for videos, DVDs, and some bestsellers circulate for 21 days.
    Videos, DVDs and selected bestsellers circulate for 7 days.
    bulletMaximum total items checked out per card is 50, including 10 music CDs, 5 videos
    and 5 DVDs.
    bulletThe current issue of magazines, all consumer information magazines and
    reference materials do not circulate and must be used in the library.
     
  3. Renewals
    bulletAll material may be renewed except material on hold for another person.
    bulletMaterials may be renewed by telephone. Please be ready to give your
    library card number to do this.
     
  4. Overdue Books
    bulletLate fee for adult items owned by Oakmont Library is $.15 per day per item.
    bulletLate fee for juvenile items owned by Oakmont Library is $.10 per day per item.
    bulletLate fee for videos and DVDs owned by Oakmont Library is $1.00 per day per item.
    bulletFines per item shall not exceed the cost of the item.
    bulletFines on items owned by other libraries may be different; the fine is determined
    by the owning library.
    bulletMaterials overdue by more than 2 months will result in action by the Magistrate's Court.
     
  5. Lost Material
    bulletThe charge for lost material is the current replacement cost of the item.
    bulletThere may be a $5.00 billing fee charged by the owning library.
    bulletA $5.00 re-processing fee will be deducted from refunds if lost/paid material is later
    returned.
     
  6. Damaged material
    bulletThe charge for damaged material is the current replacement cost of the item.
