Where can you find a photo of the dapper "Pop" Gerding of Willows Pool
fame, soldiers at Camp Gaillard, Reed’s Lumber Mill and Anderson’s old
newspaper office all in one place? Not many places that’s for sure, but
there is one and that is in Images of America: Oakmont, the recently
published photo-history of Oakmont.
The book written and edited by lead author, Vince Gagetta, assisted by
Paula Calabrese, Cheryl Provenza-Zentgraf and Gary Rogers documents
Oakmont’s history from the 1700’s through 1980 with fully captioned photos
from the library archives as well as generous local residents.
The book sells for $20 and is available at the Oakmont Carnegie Library.
Images of America: Oakmont was published as a living legacy and
memory album for current and former residents as well as a fundraiser for
the Oakmont Carnegie Library’s Capital Campaign. The 128 page book is filled
with more than 150 photos that convey the visual history of the people,
places and events that made Oakmont the friendly, progressive community it
is today. It makes a great holiday, birthday or class reunion gift for
Oakmont lovers wherever they reside.
Sales are going very well and many residents
expressed their pleasure with the quality of the book and the richness of
the photos. Some purchasers noted that they’d like to contribute their
photos to the next volume. Anyone who wishes to donate their photos of
Oakmont people, places and events to the Oakmont Carnegie Library
Pennsylvania Room Collection should contact the Oakmont Libary at 412.828.9532. It’s not too late to get involved
in the second volume of this beautiful and memorable collection of
historical photos.
