General Policy
- All use of the computer is at the discretion
of the librarian. Users logon using their library card and must be
patrons in good standing.
- Guests may use a guess pass if visiting the
Oakmont area. Allegheny County residents must apply for a library
card in order to use the computers.
- Beyond basic start-up information, the library
staff is not able to provide computer instruction.
- The library is not responsible for the loss of
personal data or damage to personal property.
- There is no fee for use of the computer,
however there is a 15 cents charge per page for printing
computer-generated materials.
- The library reserves the right to set time
limits during periods of high use.
Internet Use
- The Internet is available on all public access
computers. Users must obey all local, state and federal laws
regarding the materials that are available.
- Parents, not library staff, are responsible
for their children’s use of the Internet.
- Oakmont Carnegie Library complies with the
requirements of the Children’s Internet Protection Act.
Microsoft
Office
- These are combination word processing,
spreadsheet and database programs available on all public access
computers. Patrons must have experience using this type of program
to use it, as time does not permit staff to teach its use. The
manuals will be available for patron use as a reference.
- Patrons may bring diskettes to use in the A:
drive, but must have them scanned by staff before using. Free
diskettes are also available for patrons to use. Patrons may leave
their diskette at the desk, with their name on it, if they plan to
come back to use it again.

Patrons may not store their data on the C:
(hard) drive of the computer they are using.
