Teens: Upcoming Events

  • Metamorphosis @ Northland Library - Summer Reading Club 2008
Register on-line any time after June 1. You don't have to come to the library on any special day or time, just come whenever we are open! For every book you read, you will have a chance at some great prizes! For more information, stop in the Children's Department.
  • Thursday Book Blast
Wednesday, May 15 at 7:00 pm
Come and share your favorite children’s book at our Thursday Book Blast for youngsters in the fourth grade and up, and adults who like to read and discuss children’s books. All types of books are discussed, from picture books to poetry, fiction and non-fiction. No reservation is required.
  • Pops: We Were Family
    Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m.
Join actor Gregory Gibson Kenney as he takes you from Pittsburgh Pirate slugger Wilver (Willie) Stargell's early years in Alameda, California, to his incredible and memorable twenty-one year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Stargell's career had its high points and low points, forming Willie as a leader, the captain of the team, and eventually leading to him being known affectionately as Pops. Enjoy his lasting memory and the wonderful history of baseball in Pittsburgh. Bring the whole family to remember when all of Pittsburgh was family. Please register online through the events calendar, or in person at the adult reference desk.
  • The Big Bug Show
    Friday, June 6 at 10:30am and 4:00pm
Pizzicato Puppets brings their new show to help us kick off summer. Fred, Mehetabel, and the rest of the multi-legged crew shine in an un-creepy but ultra fun black light puppet show. After the show, if audience size and time permit, the audience will be invited to come behind the stage for a bug's eye view of the show. All ages are invited. No registration is required.
  • Read & Release
Freed any good books lately? Northland Library will celebrate our freedom to read by "freeing" books during Banned Books Week. "Read & Release" is part book club, part treasure hunt.

Beginning the last week in September, books from a special "Read & Release" collection will be left in various locations throughout the North Hills for readers to find, read and track. The books will be in plastic bags to protect them from the elements, and will have distinctive notes on the outside that direct the finder to the BookCrossing website.

Each book has an ID number inside the front cover. When you enter the number on the BookCrossing website, information about where the book has traveled will appear. Readers can leave a journal entry about the book, if they choose. Then the book is left somewhere for another reader to find. The "Read & Release" books do not need to be returned to the Library.

To see what books Northland is setting free, or for clues to their whereabouts, visit BookCrossing. Click on "People". Under "Search Members" enter the screenname "NorthlandPL", then select "Bookshelf".
