APRIL 2007

Spring Book Sale Blowout
Our semi-annual Book Sale Blowout is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 4-6. Thousands of items will be available at discount prices. Sunday will also feature our popular $5 Bag Sale, where you can put as many items as possible into a standard brown grocery bag and pay just $5.

New Bestseller Collection
Our new collection consists of multiple copies of bestsellers available on a first-come, first-served basis for our customers who come into our library. These books may not be requested ahead of time, nor renewed. They are housed on the shelving opposite the Booknook on the upstairs level. The late fee for these books is $.50 per day. The books will stay in our library and will not be sent to other libraries for loan. The library will be purchasing copies of these same titles for our regular circulating collection and you may place holds, as usual, on the titles. However, if you're lucky enough to find that new bestseller you've been waiting for, you may check it out right away and remove your name from the long waiting list! Thanks to generous funding by and your continued support of the Northland Public Library Foundation, this new collection will be a wonderful...and well-used...addition to our collection. Some opening day pictures are shown below (click on a picture for a larger view).

Northland Wins Paper Recycling Contest
Abitibi Check PresentationThanks to the combined efforts of the library and our communities, Northland placed third in our category in the 2006 Great Paper Drive. Abitibi-Consolidated, North America's largest recycler of newspapers and magazines, designed the two-month challenge to promote environmental awareness and increase paper recycling. Winning organizations and community participants collected the most paper by contributing newspapers, magazines, office and school papers, catalogues and mail into their green and yellow Abitibi Paper Retriever® recycling containers located at their facility. Although the container is located on the premises of the library, residents of the community also helped the effort by bringing their papers to the bin as well. Read the full press release...
