Library Summer Hours
Summer hours began at Moon Library on Saturday, July 5th and they will run through Sunday, August 31st. The library now closes at 3 p.m. on Saturdays and we are not open at all on Sundays. Regular library hours will resume after Labor Day.
Labor Day Closing
Moon Library will be closed on Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day. Regular library hours will resume on Tuesday, September 2nd at 10 a.m.
2008 Summer Reading Club Survey
Calling all parents whose children participated in Summer Reading Club programs throughout Allegheny County this summer. The SRC 2008 Planning Committee wants to know what you thought about this year's programs so they are conducting an online survey. The results of this survey will be used to tailor future Summer Reading Club programs to your needs, so please take a few minutes to express your opinions. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Join the Green Club
Kids in grades 3 through 5 who are interested in saving the Earth are invited to join the Green Club. Club meetings are held at the library from 2 to 3 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month. During our September 6th meeting, we will be focusing on the first of the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. After School Club
1st and 2nd graders are invited to join the Moon Library After School Club. This fall we will be featuring Fractured Fairy Tales. Come for an hour of snacks and stories from 4 to 5 p.m. every other week on the following Thursdays: September 11th and 25th, October 9th and 23rd, November 6th and 20th, and December 4th. Friends of the Library Book Sale
Clear your calendars, it's time for the annual Friends of the Library Book Sale! The book sale is one of Moon Library's biggest fundraisers and it's a great place to get gently-used books, videos, and DVDs at great prices. The sale will be held at the Moon Township Municipal Building. There will be a special preview party ($10 admission fee) on Thursday, September 18th from 4 to 8 p.m. Dates and times for the rest of the book sale are listed below. Investing During Volatile Times
Few things are more upsetting to investors than a serious bout of stock market volatility. Technology Classes for Seniors
Silver Scholars (formerly known as Web Wise Seniors) will be at the library again this fall to offer computer and technology classes. Basic Digital Cameras 1 & 2 will be offered on Mondays, September 22nd and 29th from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Basic Word Processing using Microsoft 2007 1 & 2 will be offered on Mondays, October 20th and 27th from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Each 2-session course costs $37. Seniors for Safe Driving
Drivers aged 55 and older are invited to the library to attend Seniors for Safe Driving highway safety education courses. A one-day refresher course will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, September 26th for people who have attended the program before. A two-session course will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 2nd and Friday, October 3rd for people who are new to the program. All participants should bring along a bag lunch. Classes fill up quickly so please call 1-800-559-4880 or visit SFSD-PA.com now to register and find out how you can obtain a 5% discount on your auto insurance.
Puppet Workshop
Students in grades 3 through 5 are invited to the library for a 3-session Puppet Workshop to be held from 10:30 a.m. until noon on the following Saturdays: September 27th, October 4th, and October 18th. Participants will make a puppet, write a script, practice, and then present a puppet show to the library's After School Club on Thursday October 23rd between 4 and 5 p.m. All supplies will be provided! 10th Annual Wine & Cheese Gathering
You are cordially invited to join us at Moon Library from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 4th for our 10th annual Wine & Cheese Gathering. Wine, hors d'oeuvres, and desserts will be served, there will be live music entertainment, and guests will have the opportunity to bid on a wide range of collectibles and gift items donated by local area businesses. Tickets may be purchased in advance starting on a date to be announced soon ($20 per person) or at the door on the night of the gathering ($25 per person). We hope to see you there!
Parent-Child Book Discussion
Calling all cat lovers in grades 3 through 5. Please bring along your Mom or Dad and a bag lunch and join us at noon on Saturday, October 18th when we will discuss Into the Wild, the first book in the Warrior Series by Erin Hunter. Copies of the book are available for pickup at the circulation desk when you register for the program.
