- Books on Screen - Begins September 22
Dormont Public Library has been chosen by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council to host a series of book discussion programs called “Read About It!” These discussions will be held through December.
- Our theme is “Books on Screen”. Led by Kathy M. Newman, Associate Professor of English and Cultural Studies at Carnegie Mellon University, the discussion group will explore the relationship between literature and film.
- All programs begin at 7 PM.
- September 22: Susan Orlean's The Orchid Thief (source material for Spike Jonze's film Adaptation)
- October 13: Steven Millhauser's Eisenheim the Illusionist (filmed as Neil Burger's The Illusionist)
- November 3: Ian McEwan's Atonement (film version directed by Joe Wright)
- December 1: Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner (film version directed by Marc Forster)
- Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is free and open to the general public, and requires no special knowledge about literature. Participants will receive their own copies of the books featured in “Books on Screen”, and DVDs of the films may be borrowed through the library. To register, contact Dormont Public Library at 412-531-8754 before September 13.
- This program is supported with federal Library Services and Technology Act funds administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.
