44 libraries, 1 system

ACLA, the Allegheny County Library Association, is a group of 44 libraries working together to bring the people of Allegheny County the broadest access to the best library service. Through collaboration, cooperation, and coordination, these libraries make possible what each could not achieve alone.

 A Wise Walk

Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), AARP and the Highmark PALS (People Able to Lend Support) Program invite you to take an active role in aging healthfully. Beginning in May, fifteen local libraries are hosting Wise Walk programs for adults age 50 and up. Upon registration, several incentives are given including a complimentary pedometer, walking guide and t-shirt. Participants make weekly visits to their library to report their steps, discover great resources, and enjoy a healthy aging program with a healthy snack. Some of these programs include blood pressure screenings, Center for Healthy Aging’s 10 Keys for Healthy Aging, SilverSneakers stretching demonstration, PALS in the Community, and Laughter Yoga Fitness workshops, among others.

Registrants are encouraged to invite friends, family and neighbors to be their walking partners or to form walking groups with others from their library.
